As Catholics we do have to have a real understanding of what royalty means. We are all royalty! With that we have royal responsibilities. Jesus came, among other things, to establish the Kingdom of God. We pray the Our Father. Let your Kingdom come, on earth. This means we have something to do while we are here to help make the Kingdom of God manifest. It is a prayer of responsibility. The prayer echoes our Psalm today “Here I am Lord. I’ve come to do your will.” I am part of the Lord’s Royal Court. Romans 8:17 says, “If we are children, then we are His heirs” Heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ. However, we must share His suffering if we are going to share His Glory. This Royal calling, this following after Jesus is work. It is labouring for the Kingdom right here on earth and making it manifest. From the first reading we hear of what is meant to happen with God’s people, “It is too small a thing that you should be my servant…..I will give you as a light to the nations.” It speaks of Jesus as the fulfillment, but it also speaks to us, who here at Holy Trinity are to make and equip disciples who joyfully go and invite others to Christ.
