Deacon Art was born and reared in Marystown, a small fishing village in Newfoundland. The second of thirteen children, eight boys and five girls, he went to Catholic schools and upon graduation became a fisherman, subsequently joined the Navy, completed 35 years of service, and retired in 2006. While serving in the Navy Deacon Art managed to complete a BA degree (Honours English/Religious Studies) at St. Mary’s University, graduating in 2007.
He and his wife Sharon have been blessed with five children; (three boys and two girls); 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren all of whom they love dearly.
Ordained as a permanent deacon in 2009 by Archbishop Anthony Mancini, Deacon Art served at St. Mary’s Basilica for six years, was then appointed as the Parochial Administrator at St. Patrick’s Parish and he served in that capacity until August 2019 when he was appointed to Holy Trinity Parish.
“I challenge myself to be someone who loves others as God loves me and I challenge you to do likewise. All God asks is for us to respond to His invitation to love with a resounding “Here am I Lord, I come to do your will.”
