What is ‘Joy of the Gospel’?
‘Joy of the Gospel’ was Pope Francis’ first exhortation, published in 2013 just eight months after his election to the papacy. In it, Pope Francis outlines some of the serious challenges facing the Church today, but all the more so, lovingly encourages the Church into a more missionary stance. Francis proposes a Church overflowing with a radiant and invitational joy, and which seeks after those who have been left behind in today’s world. Jesus has called us to be light, salt, and leaven in our world, and through the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, Francis’ words guide us as Catholic communities and individuals into tangible ways we can be the disciples Christ calls us to be!
Come to our weekend Masses from March 1 – March 29 as our clergy delve into the Sunday readings in light of Pope Francis’ call to missionary discipleship and the new evangelization. Past homilies by our clergy can be listened to HERE.
Hosted by Alex Craven, our parish’s Faith Formation Coordinator, this teaching series will help us to unpack and understand Francis’ exhortation, and particularly so in the light of our own local parish to explore ways in which we can bring the joy of the Gospel to people of our community!
These sessions will meet on Thursdays from 7 – 8:30 PM at St John Vianney starting on February 27th through March 26th. Please note that due to COVID-19 the sessions will now be live-streamed online and not held in person.
