A Letter From the Pastor Hello Holy Trinity Families, We’d like to invite you to celebrate October as one of the Church’s months dedicated to Mary, our Blessed Mother. For our celebration of Mary as Our Lady of Victory, we will host a procession on Sunday, October 5, processing with the statue of Mary from St John Vianney down Sackville Drive to Acadia Park, and celebrate once we arrive at the park with a BBQ sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The plan is to start the procession with the statue of Mary at 12:30 pm. We would cross Beaverbank and continue up Sackville Drive until crossing over to Acadia Park, about 900 meters from the church. During our procession, we will be praying the Rosary. As we reach the park, we will place Mary by the gazebo, gather on the field looking up at the statue, and conclude our Rosary with the mystery of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After we conclude our prayer, we’ll enjoy the BBQ and we will have some face painting and games for the kids, lasting until around 2 pm. Weather-permitting, this should prove to be a faith-filled moment to make some good memories for the children and strengthen their relationship with Jesus’ mother and ours! We encourage families, if they wish, to bring some flowers to place at the statue for the crowning, and we could gather at the front to sing a simple song together in honour of our heavenly mother. Your family’s presence will make this event more beautiful, and I personally invite you to prayerfully consider this invitation to publicly witness to our devotion to Mother Mary as a rich part of our Catholic faith. It honours Jesus immensely when we honour his Mother. The food is free; the park is beautiful; the witness is powerful; the opportunity to meet new families is enriching. My hope is that you will join us at this faith and fun-filled event for all ages. For those too young to walk, please consider a stroller or carrying on your shoulders to take in the event. Or, if it is too daunting for young legs to make such a big journey, please drive to the park and meet us for our expected arrival at around 1 pm. Additionally, for those who wish to bring their own lawn chairs, the Knights of Columbus will provide shuttle service to transport them from the church to the park. That way, people will not have to carry their own chairs during the procession. Come to pray, play, and enjoy! Yours in Christ, Fr. After the opening prayers at Mass, children are warmly invited to Room 9 for a special celebration created just for them! They’ll enjoy singing and praising God, watching a short, age-appropriate video that shares the day’s Gospel and message, and spending time reflecting, praying, and sharing together. The children will return to the main worship space to rejoin their families in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. After Mass, be sure to stop by the Little Disciples table to pick up some fun, hands-on activity sheets to help keep the conversation going at home! But who were the other thirteen popes who held that name before him? Through doctrine, authority, courage, and a couple missteps, the legacy of these Lions of the Church comes down to us today in matters both religious and secular. This course will look at the theology, history, personalities, and legacy of the Leonine popes as we pray for our current Holy Father who bears their name! This 6-week course is led by Faith Formation Coordinator Alex Craven and is open to all who wish to enroll. Sessions run from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at St. John Vianney Church on the following Monday evenings: October 20, October 27, November 3, November 10, November 17, & Nov 24.
